Memorial Day started in the 1860's in various towns as a day to remember and honor the soldiers who died in the Civil War. It was originally called Dedication Day. Next time you hear someone complaining about what a lousy job the government is doing, or the President is doing, or anything else like that, let them know that the reason that they can complain about that is because somewhere, there is a soldier out there fighting so that they have a right to complain about it!
